Governor Andrew Cuomo to Proclaim April 1-7 2018, Masonry Construction Week in New York State

RECOGNIZING THE VITAL WORKS THE MASONRY INDUSTRY HAS IN THE COMMUNITIES AND THE ENTIRE EMPIRE STATE.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo is encouraging all New Yorkers to learn more about masonry construction by proclaiming April 1 – 7, 2018 as New York State Masonry Construction Week.

Assemblyman Billy Jones sponsored this resolution and invited Upstate Masonry Institute to visit the New York State Assembly for the announcement of the resolution on the floor. The proclamation mentions that New York has relied heavily on the skills masons contribute to the extraordinary architecture found across New York State. Some of the most iconic historical structures in New York, the United States, and the world were constructed with masonry materials. Examples in New York include the State Capitol, Empire Plaza, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and various buildings at the United States Military Academy in West Point.

Upstate Masonry Institute will be hosting its first Masonry Education Day during New York State Masonry Construction Week as well as promoting masonry in various forms throughout the week. Amanda Bedian and Andy Sciocchetti of Upstate Masonry Institute worked with Assemblyman Jones’ office on the proclamation and was instrumental in getting this opportunity to the Governor.
